Marseille are ready to break the bank of John Mikel Obi
- Ligue 1 side, Marseille are ready to put John Mikel Obi out of his Chelsea misery by making him their highest-paid player after signing him. Mikel Obi has not made an appearance for Chelsea this season and is on his way out of the club he has been for more than 10 years. Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr recently confirmed that the midfielder is in advanced talks with Marseille over a January. - "I saw him [John Mikel Obi] in London. He is in advanced discussions with Marseille ," Rohr said in a recent interview. It was reported that the 29-year-old’s £3.4m-a-year salary would be a stumbling block » in Marseille’s bid to sign the midfielder. The Ligue 1 club, however, are ready to break the bank to make Mikel their highest-paid player. Marseille has been bought over by former Los Angeles Dodgers owner, Frank McCourt and he is keen to invest heavily in the squad when the January transfer window opens.
