Pep Guardiola's men never saw the defeat coming considering how they started the game, but they met an Everton side who were more determined to get the three maximum points. Romelu Lukaku netted the first goal for the hosts in the 34th minutes, and Manchester City tried all they could to restore parity as they went to the break with the hosts leading. Kevin Mirallas made it two for Everton in the 47th minutes, before Tom Davies scored the third goal in the 79th minutes. Newly signed striker Ademola Lukman scored the fourth goal for Everton on his debut at the death.
