Donald Trump will be sworn-in to office as the 45th president of the United States of America later today, Friday, January 20 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has used the opportunity to congratulate him and told him of the challenges facing Nigeria As Donald Trump is sworn-in as the 45th president of the Unites States today, Friday, January 20, 2017, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked him to help look into the crises in Nigeria while heaping the blame for this on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party, in a statement signed by Prince Dayo Adeyeye, its national publicity secretary, noted that it helped to stabilize Nigeria’s democracy in the 16 years that it held power, but that its legacies are currently being eroded by the APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari. While congratulating Trump, the party urged him to show greater interest in Nigeria and its development.

“His victory at the election and subsequent inauguration today as the president of America has demonstrated that courage, dedication and doggedness pay in the end. “We salute the American people for making the right choice; and believe that he will take America to greater heights given his success in business. “We, the PDP family admire President Trump as a great leader and hope he will show enormous interest in the development of democracy in Nigeria and Africa in general as well as Nigeria's economic development. “The PDP nurtured democracy in Nigeria from 1999 - 2015, the longest in the democratic dispensation since her Independence in 1960. However, the current situation in Nigeria is a complete reversal of all the achievements of the PDP,”the party said adding:“We are looking forward to quality relationship with you, Mr President, your party, the Rebublican and the American people in general." It expressed belief that Trump can contribute immensely in rescuing Africa from leaders with dictatorial tendencies. Meanwhile, the presidency and Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state traded words on Thursday, January, 19 over claims that Trump shunned President Muhammadu Buhari and refused to invite him for the inauguration. Fayose said the the refusal to invite Buhariis a sign that he had lost international relevance. In its reply, the presidency, through Garba Shehu, accused Fayoseof lacking adequate knowledge of how the US holds its presidential inauguration. According to Garba, the US does not invite heads of states of presidents to such events.
