President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly insisted his choice of Ibrahim Maguas the Chairman of the EFCC. According to a recent report by Punch Newspaper, the President had written to the Senate, asking the lawmakers to confirm Magu as the anti-graft chairman. It was further reported that Buhari’s letter was in response to the Senate reply on the rejection of Magu as EFCC chairman.

The Senate had claimed a damning security report by the Department of State Services was the reason for the rejection of Magu's nomination. Meanwhile, there are allegations that the comments of ex-Senate leader, Ali Ndume on the decision of the Senate on Magu's confirmation had led to the loss of his position.
